RS-232 (Recommended Standard 232) is a serial communication interface standard first published by the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) in 1962. It is one of the most widely used asynchronous serial communication interfaces in history, originally used to connect data terminal equipment (DTE, such as computers) and data communication equipment (DCE, such as modems).
Although USB has gradually replaced RS-232 in modern consumer electronics, it is still widely used in industrial control, instrumentation, embedded systems, and network device management due to its simplicity, reliability, and long-distance transmission capabilities.
